Yoga Teacher Training

SELF PACED, YOUR TIME, YOUR JOURNEY

MOTA’s 250 hour yoga teacher training is a bit different than the norm. We’re shaking things up from the traditional timeline of a 200hr yoga teacher training to offer you a self-paced, module-based 250 hour trauma informed training. This training will give you the space to learn at your own pace, dive deep and give you the tools you need to support your wellness education goals. We hope this format will further support accessibility within pursuing personal passions and also be a bit more inclusive for those that don’t necessarily resonate with the traditional 200 hour teacher training format.

MOTA’s teacher training program is designed to complete your journey in about two years; give or take. We have created this timeline in the hopes of deeply embodying this practice so that the western norms of productivity, hopefully, can take a back seat. We believe that urgency culture has run its course and we’d like to settle deeper into the practice of letting this training be one of leisure. We hope that it will give you space to learn at your own pace and that it will support the work/life/play balance.

This training is designed to fit your life and offer you time to embody the practice of Yoga. This takes time and we hope that you feel grounded and ready to lead classes in the most authentic version of yourself and/or, follow new paths within your self study.

  • What is trauma? Trauma is an emotional or physical response to one or more harmful or life-threatening events or circumstances with lasting adverse effects on your mental and physical well-being, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA).

  • Trauma doesn’t just affect the mind — it can also be held in the body. This means that mind-body practices like yoga can be challenging, and even harmful, for those who have endured any form of trauma — whether acute or complex.

  • Experiences of psychological trauma profoundly change our relationship with our body.

TI-MYTT 250hr Modules

  • The 50 hour intensive is the foundation of MOTA’s teacher training. This is a training for all students and teachers of yoga to cultivate the ability to tune into their bodies, express agency and feel empowered to engage in the practice of yoga in community. During this training we will uncover the innate tools you have within yourself to find options that feel accessible to you, learn about functional anatomy and yoga theory, navigating safe and inclusive yoga spaces and how to nurture a home practice. This training is a space to dive deeper as a student of yoga and begin to articulate how you would like to show up as a leader in wellness spaces.

This training is held from February to June every year. Registration for the next 50 hour opens this fall.

    More info HERE.

  • The 100 hour training weaves together the foundations from the 50 hour training and continues to break down what it means to be a lifelong practitioner of yoga. Through the lens of embodiment you will learn how to hold trauma-informed spaces, incorporate anatomy into your classes, how to sequence, build your brand and how to embody yoga. This training will incorporate new teachers and teachings to continue the path of learning and diversify perspectives. You do not have to take the 50 hour training to sign up for this module. There are no prerequisites.

This training runs from September to January every year. Registration opening for the fall soon.

  • Think of the rolling modules as electives. They are learning opportunities to diversify your perspectives and learn from all of the very unique and intellectually diverse teacher trainers at MOTA. The rolling modules are space for trainees to start to focus in on a realm of wellness they’re passionate about leaning into, as well as learning new things.

These modules will be released on a rolling basis. Each module is 5 hours long and will help you develop your personal practice and teaching style.

Sign up for modules and learn more about them HERE.

  • The mentorship modules are designed to support you in the direction you would like to take your wellness career or personal practice. Whether that is through the lens of teaching group classes, working one on one with clients, incorporating new practices into your already existing career or understanding how this practice supports your human experience. The mentorship is where you get to nerd out and continue to lean into your passions to figure out your niche when it comes to teaching and living your yoga.

    Two different paths:

    1. Mentorship - Career in Wellness

    2. Studentship - Deepening Self Study

Mentorship happens on a rolling basis, the next round of mentorship opens this fall, learn more about it HERE.

  • Throughout the course of the 250H program with MOTA each student will learn to truly embody the practice of Yoga. 30 hours of practicum and or self-study will be done on the students own time (no extra cost) but utilize 30 hours of time over the training journey to dive deeper in teaching, practicing and embodying all aspects of yoga.

You will choose your path of studentship or teaching and decide how you’d like to complete your 30 hours of practicum or teaching. To complete this training both paths will require a written 10 page paper. The paper will be due one month after the training is complete.

For students it will be a topic of your choice in relation to your experience and what you've embodied through this training.

For teachers, it will be a research paper on your path of study.

    • All sections listed above are required to obtain the TI-MYTT Certification.

    • Upon completion of the training, you will connect with you mentor to decide if you want to join MOTA’s sublist for subbing our studio classes or if you’d like to pursue a different path.

FAQ

  • MOTA is different from other 200hr Yoga Teacher Trainings because we:

    • Dive deeper into the practice of Trauma awareness.

    • Have an understanding of the presence of decolonization and why it’s important in context to Yoga and the world we live in.

    • You will learn how to embody a practice that supports you as the individual and break away from the westernized hierarchy of teacher /student relationship.

At MOTA we believe that community is the forefront of the human experience and meeting people where they are and showing up as they are. MOTA’s 250hr is meant to be accessible to everyone and geared in a way that makes the training available to people with busy lives. MOTA believes in changing the current culture of wellness to be more trauma inclusive.

  • We understand that the investment of a yoga teacher training can be expensive. This training sets us apart from others because we don’t want the financial burden of a training and deter a person from learning what they feel passionate about and finding peace within their life goals. We offer different types of payment tiers and payment plants so that we can support you in whatever you need.

There are three payment tiers for every module of the training:

    • The BIPOC/TRANS Rate: is for those who identify in this category. In the westernized wellness world 77% of yoga teachers are white women. We believe that offering this rate gives other demographics the support they may need to feel integrated in the wellness world. At the moment we currently do not have anyone on staff that identifies as trans but we would like to help create spaces for wellness and education for the trans community. The rate for this community is designed to support those who typically don’t have access or feel welcome in wellness spaces. If you’re able to pay more, you have the option to do so at checkout but if this rate aligns with your accessibility, please choose at your discretion.

    • The Foundational Rate: is our standard rate which sustains our offering for our community. This rate allows us to support our teachers so that they can continue their self studies (Svādhyāya) and education to guide y’all into your wellness education journey.

    • The Ability Rate: is for those who have the ability to pay more to support the BIPOC & Trans communities, as well as our teaching staff. This rate allows us to offer as many resources as we can to promote longevity in education for our students but also sustain the financial livelihood of MOTA.

    • Scholarships: 2 Scholarships will be offered on a need basis

  • MOTA’s training is run on a rolling basis, meaning you can start your journey whenever it works best for your schedule. Whether you begin with the 50hr or the mentorship, this training is geared to work for your schedule.

  • MOTA’s training is over the course of two years. We will always have intensives from Feb-June and Sep-Jan. The rolling modules and mentorships will be happening simultaneously with the 50 and 100hr in order to move at your pace and take part in the rolling modules and mentorships that work for your schedule and work load.

  • Every weekend of the Teacher Training we offer weekend passes to anyone that wants to drop in for the weekend. This could be done because you want to see what the training is like before you sign up OR the information for that weekend peaks your interest.
