This training will introduce the practice of assists through a trauma-informed lens. We will explore the many ways to support a person's practice with props, hands and language. We've entered a new chapter in wellness since the appearance of COVID-19. Hands-on assists have become somewhat taboo for safety reasons. We will work on building the confidence to find a safe and supportive practice for both you and your students, because the practice of assisting is one that can be transformative for both the student and teacher alike. Every single body has had, and will continue to have, a wild range of human experiences. Those experiences shape the individual.
Although some bodies may look similar, the internal structure will always be unique. When practicing assists in any form, it is important to understand how to use different props and angles to get to the essence of the asana (pose). This allows people to come into the version of asana that is individualized and engaged. We will explore how to take your yogis deeper into their practice of mind-body connection. By guiding them into a stable pose, we can help them become aware of the subtle changes in their breath, thoughts, and energy.
What to bring & wear:
It would be helpful to wear clothes that have distinctive seams, color blocking and/or lines. The clothes do not need to be tight or fitted. Stripes and patterned clothes work well too! This is helpful to see the direction your body moves within the asanas (postures). Please bring your manuals and any materials needed to support your education.
What to expect:
Trainees should expect to learn niche tips and tools to guide students safely into postures with both language and physical touch. Practitioners should expect to learn creative ways to support themselves in asana (postures) through the use of props & subtle (energetic) body engagement.

Workshop: Guided Supportive Asana Practice
We will begin to learn the foundations of how to integrate props into your yoga practice with guidance of the Trauma Informed MOTA Yoga Teacher trainees. We will introduce unconventional ways to empower your practice. This workshop will encourage change within the narrative of fine lines & deep flexibility to have a "beautiful" practice. We will provide the time and space for self exploration in each asana (pose), to check in with physical cues to allow your body to rest peacefully in full relaxation, and clue in to your emotional and energetic state.
TI-MYTT 5HR Modules are eight of 13 modules needed for the completion of the 250HR certification program. You can start with this module or continue on your path through the program. The first three hours of the module is where we nerd out with the teachings and lectures. We will take a 30m lunch break and reconvene with the workshop portion of the module. These last two hours are opened up to the general public//students to practice the teachings of the instructor. This is where you, the trainee will see how to put the nerdy fun stuff in action to students wanting to experience the offering rather than being trained in it. You do not need to be enrolled in the full program to take any portion of the module or workshop :) In total there are 8, 5H modules needed to take to complete the certification program for the 250H Trauma Informed MOTA Yoga Teacher Training. You can take the same module up to two times.
